As the New Year is started now and 2016 is gone and there are big changes on the calendars. Many big changes were made in the automotive history of Pakistan in the previous year. This year has given the much needed Auto Development Policy, which has some flaws but it plays the dominant role in future and the catalyzing factor is evident to the auto market to greet thirteen new cars in the period of twelve months.
First up: Face-lifts
1) Land Cruiser
Land Cruiser is released in the market and it was long awaited vehicle, which was released Midway through 2016. The Land Cruiser update is launched in Pakistan and it is not appealing to the class of buyers, who own the Land Cruisers due to its over inflated price tag and the deflated feature sheet and has the delayed launch. The car is officially launched in the country and the official release of the vehicle is made under umbrella of Toyota Indus and it guarantees the services and provides the spare parts for refreshed Land Cruiser.
Toyota Avanza received the facelift in August last year and it has held the line up filler for long time for Toyota Indus. It has most mid-cycle updates and it crawled its way to the market without much buzz. It remains tough to argue and some modest updates will change the fate of Avanza vehicle in Pakistan and we see it sustaining the PKR 3.0 million price tag. It serves as the testament to spreading ignorance of automakers on the prospects of the multipurpose vehicles through Pakistan.
3) Audi A3
After the global launch of the vehicle, Audi A3 in October 2016, the mid cycle A3 was released and its updates are provided in Pakistan. The highlights of A3 refresh are provided with bolder overall look and it is complimented by fresh designed tail lamps and LED headlamps. The most important take away from the vehicle, A3 mid cycle was the decision of A3 to drop the price to PKR 4 million and it made it more attractive option for the buyers, who live in the region, which is currently occupied by different crossovers.
4) Audi Q3
During the month of November, the vehicle, Audi Q3 was mutely launched and Audi updated its entry level without much buzz crossover in Pakistan. After the launch of sedan sibling, Q3 received the mild aesthetic changes on outer side along with not so anticipated half a million rupees reduction in its price and the rate of vehicle is started at PKR 5.25 million.
5) Honda Accord
After the launch of Honda Atlas, the mid cycle refresh of Accord was launched in three year and it started selling in the ninth generation accord across Pakistan. It has some outfitted with cosmetic reinforcements and Accord remains under criticism because of its exceeding PKR 11.25 million price tag and has the high customs duty, which is applicable on the CBUs with engines bigger than 1.8 liters under the hood.
Next on the list are the iterative updates
6) Honda Civic
The tenth generation Honda Civic was launched in Pakistan and it was the most hyped and controversial release of the vehicle during past year. Honda Civic was taken to the showroom at the end of July and there were many speculations, curiosity and leaked images for many months. The sale figure of this vehicle impressed and the vehicle, Civic was hurriedly rolled out due to some quality concerns and it led to the delayed shipments and made the launch of the vehicle with mixed affair for Honda Atlas.
The fifth generation Mercedes E-Class was launched in the market during November last year. The car was launched at the private event, which was managed by Shahnawaz Motors just after the global debut of the vehicle at 2016 North American International Show. When the dealer revealed the pricing of the vehicle, it was started from PKR 11.99 million and Honda Accord is merely the mid-sized sedan, which is produced in the market with 11.25 million rupees price tag within the country.
Toyota Indus has now finally launched the motor vehicle, Hilux Revo and Fortuner in the market to the end of the year and the price of the vehicle, Fortuner is going to be declared by Toyota Indus. The price of the vehicle, Hilux Revo will be started at PKR 2.26 million for the single cabin and it goes all the way up to PKR 4.2 million for fully loaded Hilux Revo.
10) Toyota Prius
It is the wonderful vehicle, with the iterative updates which was released this year and it was the launch of fourth generation of the vehicle, Toyota Prius. The company, Toyota Indus updated their website in December to reflect the launch of the vehicles, Hilux Revo and Fortuner. There is only notable contribution of the officially available CBU, which makes the market to open the gates for service and spare parts through the official dealerships of the company and it also explains the muted release of the two line-up fillers of Toyota Indus, Land Cruiser and Avanza. When the new Prius winds up the failure in the country, the positive take away comes in form of price, which was only PKR 4.49 million. When you compare it with the market, it means that it was the fourth generation of Prius and the Japanese imports are provided in the market, which are available with lukewarm market response.
And finally we revisit the completely new entrants to our market
11) Honda HR-V
The tremendous style of Honda HRV was launched in Pakistan after the successful launch of its hybrid sibling in our market in 2016. The vehicle, HRV did not get much success being the CBU and it is not pocket friendly for PKR 3.6 million as this vehicle is under featured in the first place. It helped Honda Atlas to expand the official line up and it contributed in the alleviation of the servicing concerns of the owners of the vehicle, Honda Vezel across Pakistan.
12) BMW X1
Dewan Motors has decided to introduce its new model of BMW XI in Pakistan. The company has already made the announcement for the release of this motor vehicle in 2016 and now this vehicle has been introduced with mixed opinions as X1 is arrived in the market with eye catching start up price of PKR 3.99 million. This vehicle is lacked with the onboard features and it is considered as the German niche. This car does not have cruise control in the standard configuration and it is reported by Dewan Motors to receive over one hundred and twenty orders in the first phase of the reservations. It pointed out one thing clear that Dewan Motors returns to auto market with some serious intent after many years of dormancy.
13) Suzuki Vitara
There have been some speculations that Pak Suzuki is going to introduce new Suzuki Vitara on the 21st December to help 2016 to release the big vehicle during this year and in the coming new crossovers. This new coming vehicle is added with option of standard all-wheel drive capability and has the differentiation factor up the sleeves. It is labeled as the game changer by Pak Suzuki and there are stereotypes, which are usually associated with Suzuki in Pakistan and it has proved itself as the formidable option and carry on PKR 3.49 million starting prices. It is the exciting year for the auto market to recall it as the year to contribute with great deal of widespread acceptance of CUVs in the country.
This vehicle, Honda HRV was initially launch in the beginning in 2016 and it is added with the release of Suzuki Vitara and joins the growing list of options in PKR 3.0-4.0 million price tag and it featured with three crossovers with one more on the way to be launched in 2017. We are going to end up another exciting motoring years in the history of the country and we wish you to prosperous 2017 with happy motoring.
