200 Metro Buses for Lahore

A Daewoo Pakistan spokesperson told on Tuesday that 200 buses will reach Lahore till mid September that will be run on feeder routes of the Metro Bus Service.

There are 162 big and 38 small buses while the company will run these buses on 14 routes of over 123 km, according to an agreement with Punjab Mass-transit Authority (PMA). Six year is the duration of this agreement which can be extended with approval from both parties.

The spokesperson told that Daewoo Pakistan obtained these buses for Rs. 3 billion while PMA will pay Rs. 165 per km and Rs. 140 per km for large and small buses respectively for the operation. According to an estimate, around 200,000 passengers will use these buses every day. Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking devices along with Automated Fare Collection and Bus Scheduling System (AFC-BSS) will be installed in these buses.

According to the official documents, 22 locations across the feeder routes will be used by the company to set up ticket sale. These points will remain open to an estimated 18 operational hours. The spot checking by ticket inspectors will be made through 15 handheld electronic ticket validators.

Prior to that, PMA Operational GM Uzair Shah had said that buses for feeder routes will reach in August in Lahore. He also said that public transport facilities will be provided to each citizen within 500 meters. He added that 104 routes on 951 km will be covered by 1400 buses.

According to Daewoo Pakistan spokesperson, 35 of the said buses have reached Pakistan that will be used for Multan Metro Bus Service.

He told that the project is expected to be complete on 14th August after which 18 of these buses will start operation.
