5 Most Favorite 4X4s of 2016 in Pakistan


Here in this post, we will look at those 4×4 vehicles that were searched most during the year 2016. The 4×4 vehicles were available for public use in the 90s. The first such vehicle was Mitsubishi Pajero but later Toyota entered in this category with its Land Cruiser and it ended the monopoly of Pajero and now most of the 4×4 vehicles in good quality belong to Toyota. But investment from local or foreign investors is harmed in Pakistan by tax structure, higher import duty, resale value of land cruiser and limited consumers. In the year 2016, following 4×4 vehicles are present in the top 5 searched vehicles.

Toyota is producing and selling this 4Runner midsized sport utility since 1984 while it started gain popularity in Pakistan since 1990s. In the Asian market, the Fortuner on Hilux platform replaced the Surf (4Runner) while you can search local market to find good condition variants of SSR-X and SSR-G. You can get these models in engine variants of 2.7, 3.0 and 3.4 L.

#4: Mitsubishi Pajero

We have already said that the 4×4 culture was introduced in Pakistan by Mitsubishi Pajero which means that only old Pajero vehicles are available in Pakistan today. GLS and Exceed of Pajero are mostly available to purchase. The sale started in 1991 for the second generation Exceed and GLS. In the versions of Metal Top, Semi High Rood Wagon, Canvas Top Convertible and High Roof Wagon (long wheelbase), the new and larger body was introduced. The stretch of short wheelbase and long wheelbase models is 70 mm and 30 mm respectively. Previously, there were two engines including a 2.5 liter turbocharged diesel engine and a 3 liter 12 valve SOHC with ECI-Multi electronic fuel injection but later eth company introduced two new engines including 2.8 liter turbocharged diesel with inter-cooler and a 3.5 liter 24-valve DOHC with ECI-Multi.

Japanese manufacturer Toyota manufactures light commercial vehicle Toyota Hilux and sold it as pickup truck. Apart from Japan, India, USA, Canada, N Korea and S Korea, it is sold in most of other countries. In Pakistani market, it is the only locally manufactured pickup truck due to which its sale always remained steady. The newer 8th generation Hilux in Pakistan was just announced by Indus Motors which is modeled on ‘keen look’ with slim projector headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights that are also used in Corolla E170. Three variants of this vehicle are introduced by Toyota including:

  • V variant
  • G variant
  • Single cabin

One of the most loved 4 wheel vehicles in the world is Toyota Land Cruiser which is famous for its reliability and durability. Currently, the J200 is the 10th generation of the model that comes with improved engine and interior along with several modern equipments. Important features of the vehicles are heavy front suspension and bigger brake rotors and calipers. There are 5 different engine variants for Land Cruiser including 4.5 L 1VD-FTV V8, 4.0 L 1GR-FE V6, 4.7 L 2UZ-FE V8, 4.6 L 1UR-FE V8 and 5.7 L 3UR-FE V8 turbo diesel. The latest generation of Prado has 4 liter V6 engine through which the vehicle can reach maximum speed of 200 km/h while it takes just 9 seconds to reach speed of 100 km/h from zero due to 271 hp and 381 Nm of torque. Apart from that, there is a 2.7 liter straight four engine that can reach maximum speed of 170 km/h and 0-100 km/h in 13 seconds with 161 hp and 246 Nm of torque.
