Today is the 33rd death anniversary of singer Ahmed Rushdi who rule the Pakistani film music for decades. First Pakistani pop singer Ahmed Rushdi was born on 24th April 1934 in Hyderabad Deccan. In 1954, he migrated to Pakistan from his birthplace and started his career from Radio Pakistan.

Ahmed Rushdi has the award to sing Pakistani National Anthem in 1955 with other singers for the first time. He achieved fame from film “Anokhi’s” famous song “Bandar Road Se Kemari”. Ahmed Rushdi became a top singer in Lahore after his song “Chand Sa Mukhra” for film “Saperan” in 1961 and another song “Gol Gapay Wala” for film “Mehtab Ke Geet” in 1962.

The era from 1963 to 1977 was the rise of Ahmed Rushdi during which he also popularized Habib Jalib in Pakistan by singing his poem “Main Nhi Manta” for film “Khamosh Raho”. On 11th April 1983, Ahmed Rushdi died. Govt. awarded him “Sitara-e-Imtiaz” after his death.
