The startup of this Pakistan provided the solution in Pakistan and the people living in other countries. They will generate the revenue through their global sales and it is used directly in the resource-intensive task of changing the culinary behavior in low income and off grid communities.
According to this startup, there is 55% of the total population of Pakistan burns firewood and dung cake to cook their food. These fuel fumes claims about 100,000 lives across Pakistan this year and this is done because of these sources, which can affect more lives than caused by other diseases like malaria, polio and dengue fever.
When the women use these methods to cook their food, it is not only unhealthy but also waste time, raw material and money. These methods are used and they can lead to the fatal respiratory diseases and also contribute in the environmental degradation. This program is focusing on the communities, which lacks with the natural gas pipelines and electricity. The company has also tested the range of clean cooking stoves in Bedian, which is a small village on the eastern side of Lahore. Now they are developing the new iteration of their beginning prototype.
The Journey of Jaan Pakistan
Jaan Pakistan has started this startup with the aim to take this challenge and transform the cooking to be done in the rural areas of Pakistan. Khizr attended the fifth One Young World summit in Dublin in October, 2014 and he represented Jaan Pakistan. He shared his vision to do the research work and manufacture the affordable energy solutions, which is excellent for the low income communities. He also won the social business competition for the low cost water heater.
He said that when he was flying back to Lahore, he was thinking about those heaters and he started stringing together with the team of motivated individuals. They stepped in this field and started the survey of the low income community outskirts of Lahore. He started thinking on other problems and the demand of warm water was not in great number.
Most of the people thinking about the increasing cost of firewood and some of them spent enough money to buy the firewood. They understood it immediately and they got ready to change the gear. Jaan Pakistan has extended its operation with the provision of just $20,000 worth of funding and they are able to secure the startup competition. Now they are testing the wide range of products and they are checking the culinary behavior and they are checking the limit of new technologies, which would be adapted. These are the basic factors, which are helping in introduction of new and revolutionary substitute methods to do the cooking in the rural areas of the country.
