For the three month period ending in September, the latest comScore report says that Apple has solidifies its role with a 0.7 point increase to 40.6%, as the number one smartphone OEM in the US. This comes at the expense of Motorola and HTC, who loses 0.4 and 1.4 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, the dominance of iOS and Android of smartphone market continued as of the overall pie, both combine for some 92.4%, which over the previous three month period is a combined 0.5 point increase. This came mostly at the expense of BlackBerry’s market share, which now controls just 3.8% of the market and has suffered another decrease.
Into the 3rd place, Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS is slowly climbing its way, which is obviously far away from the first two. Of gaining momentum, WP’s growth is starting to show ever-so-slight hints as the latest report reveals that in some 19 countries, it’s become the second largest mobile OS, including Vietnam, Finland, Thailand, Italy, Russia and Turkey.
Over a quarter of a billion smartphones shipped worldwide in Q3 2013, which is 44% growth a year-over-year. Even a miniscule-looking market shares can equate to humongous profits, with such a huge number of devices making their way into the pockets of so many people globally.
