A successful experiment has been done to eliminate a special type of blood cancer (acute myeloid leukemia) by using a Chinese herbal medicine.
This research has been done by experts of Hong Kong who told that Chinese herbal doctors are using it since a long time but better results can be achieved by mixing it with other medicines. This disease is the most extreme form of blood cancer and such patients were given a medicine ‘Homoharringtonine’, extracted from a special plant ‘plum yew tree’, that eliminated the disease but traditional medicines of cancer were also given to these patients.
This is a cancer of white blood cells which is difficult to get rid of. 24 patients of this disease were given this medicine and it uprooted the disease from 20 among them. A 76 old woman was given the medicine for just 5 months and she remained protected from cancer for 1 year.
This medicine was experimented on aged persons while there was no cure for leukemia before. The biological name of the tree from where medicine of cancer is taken is Cephalotaxus while it is also called ‘plum yew’ in China and Japan. This medicine from this herb stops the production of protein that enhances cancer.
