Crackdown Against Illegal Web Channels by PEMRA & FIA

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued the directions to the Cyber Crime Wing of Federal Investigation Agency to carry out the crackdown on the illegal and unlicensed web channels.

PEMRA has issued the directions under the orders of apex court, Supreme Court and the chairman of PEMRA said that PEMRA has taken various measures to stop the fake news. This step is an attempt to stop publication of baseless news.

PEMRA report shows that the authority has issued 618 show cause notices and warnings to various TV channels over the violation of the stipulated moral code of conduct. It has put ban over 25 grams and ads for same reason. PEMRA has suspended licenses of 13 TV channels and they fined worth Rs.106.53 million to the responsible restaurants. The authority has also inspected the 18,494 cable tv networks and they seized 1967 systems and they  imposed the fines of Rs.13.656 million and there are about 80 foreign channels, which broadcast on the cable networks illegally and they shut down them.
