Digital birth registration Cell Opens in Lahore

On Thursday, a Digital Birth Registration (DBR) Cell was launched at the Local Govt. Complex Lahore by UNICEF, Telenor Pakistan and Local Govt. & Community Development Department (LG&CDD) Punjab.

The aim of DBR is to achieve universal birth registration where sophisticated technology is used to conceive live data of birth registration. UNICEF Country Representative for Pakistan Ms. Angela Kearney and Special Secretary LG&CDD Shahid Nasir Raja have set up the live data flow for the districts of Pakpattan and Bahawalpur and this birth registration service is currently available in these two districts with advanced digital mobile phone technology. The target is to expand it to 8 other districts also.

Angela Kearney said about the birth registration that it is a fundamental right and UNICEF regards it as protection for all children in the world. She also congratulated the Pakistani govt. to initiate this important project in the country and also appreciated the efforts of Telenor Pakistan in this respect.

On that occasion, Shahid Nasir Raja thanked the support of UNICEF and said that Govt. of Punjab is committed to start this registration before end of 2024 in the target districts of the province and it is one among the top priorities of the government.
