According to an estimation of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), around Rs. 200 billion to 300 billion has moved from urban to rural areas of Pakistan during the recent Eid ul Azha festival. It will really benefit the rural areas and farmers.

FPCCI president Abdul Rauf Alam told that 85% of the total amount was spent on the purchase of sacrificial animals. He added that the whole Muslim world, including Pakistan, takes benefit from the economic activity generated during Eid ul Azha while it is especially important for the rural economy of Pakistan.

Most of the times, cattle traders rear their cattle in villages for months and then bring them to large cities, to sell them during Eid ul Azha. These sellers take billions of rupees to villages that run the rural economy very sharply and also reduce poverty and unemployment.

The jobless persons, tanners, transporters, textile manufacturers and others takes benefit from Eid ul Azha as it creates number of temporary jobs. Livestock sector accounts 58.5% of the agricultural sector and 12% of national economy and it is largely promoted by Eid ul Azha.

Alam told that the livestock sector is growing 3.6% annually despite regression of crops. We can also export the cattle to Saudi Arabia that will bring foreign exchange in the country and boost to the rural economy.

Meat is consumed in large quantity in Saudi Arabia in hotels, wedding ceremonies and households while millions of animals are also slaughtered every year during Hajj which makes it a big market for cattle.

Pakistan is currently the 4th largest milk producer in world but potential in livestock sector could not be achieved fully due to lack of value addition.

The president of FPCCI told that many people are ready to spend freely on purchase of animals and they could not be discouraged by price movements. The production of cattle is increasing with a good pace in the country.
