Family Planning Ads after 11 PM only

+

Recently, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) gives directives about the Women Protection Bill in Pakistan after which it came under criticism.

The traditional media and social media came against the controversial recommendation by CII in which the constitutional body demanded that husbands should be allowed to lightly beat their wives.

But there are other several recommendations by CII also that are important. One of them is their proposed ban on contraceptive ads on TV. They have the view that it produces ‘vulgarity’ and corrupts the morals of whole society.

And this recommendation is taken seriously by media regulatory authority PEMRA which has recently banned TV channels to show contraceptive ads. But we are not sure that it happened after the recommendation of CII or it was a premature decision made on the concerns of viewers.

PEMRA’s letter calling for ban on family planning ads

According to the latest recommendations of PEMRA, now TV channels and FM radio stations can’t air the ads related to birth control, contraceptive products or family planning.

Lot of people expressed their views on Twitter after the initiative taken by PEMRA. Most of the people says that fast growing population of Pakistan is a concerning matter for country’s resources but the moral police (PEMRA) is trying to ban any education that could help the people to reduce this problem.

Apart from criticism, many people in the society are also in favor of this move by PEMRA as it impacts all the sections of society. Hopefully, a good and intelligent decision will be taken.

Update: PEMRA is allowed for family planning ads after 11 PM.
