Government Released Rs. 553 Million to Combat Climate Change

Federal government has released the Rs 553 million as the first tranche for Green Pakistan Fund and according to the statement issued by the Prime Minister. The funds will be disbursed among the provinces, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and AJ&K without giving any preferences.

Funds Meant to Increase Tree Cover in Pakistan

The government wants to promote a forestation throughout the country, which is the main aim of this fund. As the International Day of Forests was observed and this statement was given at that time and the worldwide commitments are also increased to enhance the number of tree plantation in order to tackle the climate change. Pakistan is included in those countries that are losing the precious forest land over the years and they did not check the cutting of trees and forests are becoming devastated.

PM said that he wants to watch Pakistan the leading environmentally responsible nations around the world through increase in number of tree plantation and Green Sector policy reforms. The government has realized the importance of plantation the trees and increase the area of forest, which is the key instrument to change the climate mitigation.

He further added that climate change is not only affecting the present but it will also adversely affect the generations to come. If we do not respond positively today then we will rest the coming generation in risk. The statement of the PM is referred to the Paris agreement and he said that Pakistan has ratified and it shows that he will show the commitment to deal with the impact of climate change through framework of technology and increase in the capacity building. He liked to show his personal commitment and he urged the nation to work for Green Pakistan to value the tree, bio-diversity and wildlife, which are the most precious endowments of the nature.

There is global surge in the forestation in the present decades and forests cover about 4 billion hectares to make up 30% of the Earth land area. The United Nations issued the reports, according to which there is an estimated 1.6 billion people, which are the 25% of the global population depend on the forests for their livelihood, subsistence, employment and income generation.

The countries of the world reached to the agreement on a plan in January 2017 that it would improve the outlook of the forests of the world and the target has been set to enhance the forests by 120 million hectares by 2030 around the world according to the overview of the United Nations.
