It seems that Haier has intentions to open a smartphone manufacturing plant in Pakistan. For this purpose, a delegation of Haier Group of Companies met Minister of State for IT & Telecom yesterday while the delegation was led by CEO Haier Mobile Mr. Zeeshan Qureshi.

Haier officials had the view that the requirement of a smartphone manufacturing company in Pakistan has increased enormously due to raise of demand and usage of smartphones after auction of 3G/ 4G in the country.
Officials of Haier told that now they are interested in establishment of smartphone manufacturing plant in Pakistan due to this demand.
The officials also said that they also want to transfer of technology in Pakistan instead of importing mobile phones in order to manufacture their products inside Pakistan.
Government will support any smartphone manufacturing plant through special incentives including tax relaxations: Anusha Rehman
Anusha Rehman was also in favor of establishment of this manufacturing plant in Pakistan for some time and appreciated this intention by Haier and told that the government will provide incentives including tax relaxations and others for this planned project of smartphone manufacturing in Pakistan.
She also said that the high growth rate of mobile industry in Pakistan’s 200 million population shows that Pakistan requires local smartphone manufacturing units.
She added that the local manufacturing venture will prove to be cost effective due to the educated and skilled young labor force of Pakistan.
If the plan goes smoothly then Haier would establish this manufacturing plant till the end of this year.
It is important to mention here that Haier has already established a laptop assembly factory in Pakistan (Lahore). Since 2001, Haier is present in the Pakistani market while they initially produced air conditioners and other home appliances in the country. In terms of home appliances’ market share, Haier Pakistan is currently at number 2 spot.
