During the past few years there has been a large number of entry level smart phones in Pakistan. Despite the competition the infinix stand besides the crowd b providing features rich phone in low price and the next step is all new hot 5.

Design and Display

The Infinix hot 5 is made up plastic with the distinguishing feature being the textured back, which helps in gripping and handling the phone.

The weight of the phone is as light as it lacks the substantial feeling when you hold the phone in your hands.

 

When you look at the front of the phone there is a 5.5 inch screen and a front camera on the top, an LED and a loud speaker.

You will also see the front facing speaker grilles up front flanking the screen on both sides.

On the top of the phone there is a 3.5mm earphone jack while on the bottom of the phone you will see a USB port for charging and the primary microphone.

 

On the right side of the phone there is the power button and the volume up and down button.

On the back of the phone, it really texture; you will find the rear camera along with a LED flash on the top left corner of the phone.

The fingerprint scanner is at the center of the phone that makes it easy to access.

The back cover of the phone can be removed but the battery can’t accept you use a set of screw drivers.

Removing the back cover will allow you to get access to the dual sim port and memory card slot.

 

Now coming to the display of the mobile phone, it’s a pretty standard one with 5.5 inch IPS panel. At this price, the resolution which is 720×1280 what would you expect from the phones of this range.

 

The display also has good color reproduction, nice contrast and decent viewing angles.

The defect is its brightness you won’t be able to use it in the direct sunlight, as it is a complaint common in all the entry phones.

Performance

As it is a mid range phone you shouldn’t expect good performance from the hot 5. However it doesn’t mean that phone performance is bad.

Let’s get the numbers and the benchmarks first.

 

The hot 5 has the processor of mediate 6580 quad core chipset clocked at 1.3 GHz. It also has 2 GB of RAM.

The real world performance considers the chipset. The hot 5 held its own and performed well. For a normal user it is a best phone you won’t feel any trouble in moving from one application to another.

For most of the users the hot 5 won’t be a disappointment for them as it runs fine through day by day tasks.

Camera

The hot 5 has a rear camera of 8MP along with a powerful LED flash on the back. The front camera is of 5MP and it also has a LED flash.

The camera application is very simple and the interface is easy to be understandable for the first users. There is a shutter button at the bottom of the display, full with options of video mode and gallery.

 

On the top you have the toggles for the front/back camera and the LED flash. Swipe toward the left and you will find the HDR mode and other settings while if you swipe towards right you will find different modes for the camera for example normal, professional, beauty etc.

Talking about the actual camera the result is good in the daylight. In good daylight condition the colors were bright the picture shows enough detail and not overly saturated.

In low light the results weren’t good, the same case as was with other phones of the same range.

Battery and Miscellaneous

The hot 5 has the battery of 4000 mAh. Combined with the low res screen and not so powerful processor and you will get a excellent battery timing.

The hot 5 has enough features to make me last for a complete day which includes some benchmarks, checking social media, taking photos and day to day stuff.

A light user will get better battery lifetime.

Another thing that I liked the most about the hot 5 was its speakers. Infinix calls the hot 5 a mobile cinema while the claims fall short as considering its resolution, the front speakers were a delight. The quality of the sound was so good that it crossed some of the flagships and it’s definitely on the top of the budget phones.

The speakers are loud and the sound quality is so good that there is not distortion even at high volume and they are stereo.

Verdict

Infinix has done a good job with the hot 5 making sure that you don’t notice that it’s a budget phone.

For the price it exceeded my expectations. Although the build quality is a bit tacky, is liked the textured back. The display is good, and day to day performance is also good, camera is decent.
