Karachi is a big city and it has about 20 million population, which is very congested. This city faces the problems of transports as huge number of population travel from one corner of the city to the other for their jobs, or some other works. Sometimes, there is serious traffic jam of the busy roads in the evening times. Various suitable solutions are thought to overcome this problem and roads are also widened off and on.

From the past few years, the possible transport system is worked out, which is ‘mass transit system’, which you can say ‘Bus Rapid Transport System’. Various serious attempts are made but due to some reason, this system could not be started. Now the experts are seriously concerned about this issue, which they need to solve to ease the transport system and give convenience to the people to travel from one end to the other quite easily. They think over 31 kilometers long corridor, which will run from Safoora to the Tower and Shahrah-e-Faisal and it will pass by the University road, Muhammad Ali Jinnah Road and Shahrah-e-Quaideen.

Need an Authority

It is needed to have an authority, who can propose the hiring structure and they can recruit the experienced staff to carry out this construction work on the road. It is said that six-bus rapid transport lines are proposed for Karachi and any suitable authority can check it and they carry on or supervise the operations being conducted on the preparation of the roads. The services are provided to the commuters and these are regulated. It is also said that a bill regarding Sindh Mass Transport Authority will be presented in Sindh Assembly in the start of the next year, which can draft the complete procedure for the new transport system.

Red Line

The 31 kilometers long corridor is built with 43 stations on its route. All these stations will be located at 400 to 600 meters apart from each other. As the weather conditions are tough during the summer season, so their distances are not settled from above than these distances, so that the pedestrians do not face problems in hot weather conditions. The people can reach on these stop through zebra crossing, where traffic lights are present.

The transport system, Red Line has the main corridor with 38 stations on its way from Safoora to Tower. All of the stations are located at 500 meters from each other. The passengers can cross the road at the zebra crossing and they can have an easy access to these stations. But this proposal was rejected by the audience because traffic signal is recommended on every half kilometer distance, which is now signal free, which can cause delay in traffic.

It is decided that this idea will take corridor back to the signaled area, which is now signal free. The police force is appointed on these traffic signals to 3enforce the law and regularizes the traffic. They will have to remove the encroachment and all illegal parking sites will be removed. If this is done, then major part of the traffic problem of Karachi can be settled and no BRT is needed on this place.

Money matters

If all of the work is carried out according to the decided plan, then each trip of Red Line will cost for Rs.35 to the passengers. This plan is easy to carry out and the fare on different destinations can be revised or the government can subsidize it and the concessions can be given to the elder people or to the students.
