Our data in Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Yahoo mail and others is saved in the servers of these companies. The numbers of customers of these companies are in billions and their all information are saved in the countless servers inside the giant size data centers.

Data centers are extremely important for these companies and their services can be affected with little problems in these data centers. The big companies of internet have constructed vast and huge buildings to save data of their customers which are called data centers but now Microsoft wants to transfer these data centers under water.

The company of Bill Gates is working on such prototypes of data centers which can work while present in several hundred feet below sea water. The name of this scheme is “project Netak”. Under this project, a special data center of 8 feet diameter was made in 4 months that was protected in a steel capsule. This capsule was put at some distance from coast of California in the depth of 30 feet.

Microsoft claimed that it is the first time that a data center has been put under water. 100 different censors are also present at capsule that will inform about pressure, moisture in inner space and other factors. This capsule type data center spends energy equivalent to 300 desktop computers to work. The engineers performed successful experiment of this data center and ran commercial data processing projects on the capsule through cloud computing service of Microsoft.

After successful experiment, Microsoft has started to design the data centers for underwater projects. Their size will be 8 times to the experimental data center.

Microsoft claimed that transfer of data centers under the water will increase internet speed and solve several problems, especially cooling problem. Severs inside data centers emits heat while cooling system is necessary to retain them cold which is quite costly while they also spend lot of energy.

Due to cold sea water, the extra cooling system for the data centers will not be required that will save the cost of cooling system energy also. Apart from that, the use of hydrokinetic energy of sea waves for computing power in data centers can also save energy.

Half of the world population resides in the 120 km area from sea coast. The presence of data centers near the coastal area will decrease the distance between data centers and customers that will provide them fast internet speed.
