Lahore, The mother of Meera, film actress was contested in the general elections from PP-83, Haroonabad. But her mother, Shafqat Zahra Bukhari was defeated by the candidate of PML Zia ul Haq group, Chodry Ghulam Murtaza, who got 43,637 votes in the general election. While on the other hand, her mother got only 225 votes.

Meera announced previously that she would lead the election campaign of her mother but she had to go to Canada to get her permanent residential certificate. She could not get the permanent residential certificate from there and she returned unsuccessful. Meera was very optimistic for the success of her mother in the general election and she hoped that her mother would become Chief Minister or Prime Minister of the country. When the result was declared then it was found that there were only 225 people who wanted to make her mother Chief Minister and rest of the people did not consider her for the subject post.

Meera also gave a statement in which she complained for the rigging in the general and demanded for re-election in their constituency also. She is very sad these days on the defeat of her mother.
