14 new Union Councils were recently included in the tax net but the Excise & Taxation Department Rawalpindi failed to take Rs. 700 million property tax from them.

The sources told that the report given to DG Excise Punjab by a Regional Excise Office says that residents refused to pay property tax. Several cases are in court due to which the recovery of property tax could not be made. It should be remembered that these newly included UCs in Rawalpindi had to pay property tax from fiscal year 2012-13 till now to Excise & Taxation Department Rawalpindi.

RMC recently held a meeting during which it was decided to apply a new tax on property to increase annual income of the RMC. When a property will be transferred to new owner, 1% of the price of property will be charged as tax.

Few additional charges were also introduced in this meeting including increase in parking fee for private vehicles and public transport vehicles parked at bus terminals.
