Old Pakistani Currency Notes will Expire in December 2016

According to the notification of Federal Govt. on 4th June 2015, the legal status of bank notes with old design will end from 1st December 2016. Now it is decided that all the remaining currency notes of 10, 50, 100 and 1000 with old design will be eliminated step by step.

The legal status of currency note of 5 rupee and old design 500 rupee has already ended. It should be noted that State Bank of Pakistan started the series of bank notes of new design in 2005 with note of Rs. 20 and its purpose was to improve security, durability and beauty of bank notes.

The process of release of series of new design bank notes of 5, 10, 20, 50, 500, 1000 and 5000 rupees was completed in 2008.

The commercial and microfinance banks will receive and exchange the old design currency notes of 10, 50, 100 and 1000 rupees till 30th November 2016.

Field offices of SBPBSC will accept the old design currency notes of 10, 50, 100 and 1000 rupees from people till 31st December 2021. The last date of exchange of all the currency notes of old designs in banks is 30thNovember 2016.
