Four Pakistani American students won the prestigious Hult Prize for the idea that makes the lives of millions of refugees better across the world.

What is Hult Prize

The competition of the Hult Prize challenged the student teams all over the world to propose the scalable start up businesses to improve the lives of 10 million refugees by 2022. The Hult prize provides the platform to help the students to come up with the projects and it will help the social welfare. The start ups are non profitable and it is one of most wonderful awards.

The team of Pakistani students raised about $30,000 in crowd funding campaign in May this year. They also ran a pilot project in Orangi Town Karachi, which contributed in this project.

What Was Their Idea

The Pakistani American students focused their attention on the creation of transport network for refugees. This transport network helps the refugees to stay connected to all essential daily services. This idea gave the project the edge as their idea was innovative to use solar powered rickshaw. The group of the students won the prize by defeating 5 other teams from across the world and managed to get the prize of $1 million.

The Innovation

Four students of Rutgers University including Moneeb Mian, Gia Farooqi, Alumna hanaa lakhani and Hasan Usmani competed in this competition from business plan of Roshni Rides. They formed their own team and started to shape their plan. The plan was to use solar powered rickshaw rides to transport the refugees to the schools, hospitals and markets. The vehicles run on the systematic route.

Noman Azhar from JS Bank and Suffiyan Malik from the NUST represented Pakistan at Hult Prize 2017 final, which was held at United National on 16 September.
