Pakistan Bandwidth Capacity Increases New 24Tbps Undersea Cable

The company, SEA-ME-WE-5 has completed the under-sea submarine cable, which is 20,000 km long and it connects Pakistan through the TWA landing station in Karachi. TWA will manage and maintain the working of SEA-ME-WE-5 in Pakistan as it is section of the consortium with some other leading telecom operators from 16 countries. With the provision of this submarine cable, the 24 tbps additional internet bandwidth is provided in Pakistan.

The SEA-ME-WE-5 is the cable system, which is 20,000 km long and it connect Singapore to Europe through Italy and France and it passes through Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Djibouti, Oman, Yemen, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand and UAE. The end users should not expect the immediate increase in speed of the internet but the internet operators like telecom and ISPs will have the chance to buy the wider pipes of internet bandwidth to give the benefits to the end users.

The total internet capacity in Pakistan was less than 7 tbps before today and now it is increased to 31 tbps with the provision of new internet bandwidth capacity in Pakistan after going live through SEA-ME-WE-5.

The international links and bandwidth capacity of Pakistan is included with:

  • TW1 with design capacity of 1.28Tbps
  • Sea-Me-We-3 with 480 Gbps capacity with two fiber pairs
  • Sea-Me-We-4 with design capacity of 1.28Tbps
  • I-ME-WE with design capacity of 3.86Tbps
  • Sea-Me-We-5 with design capacity of 24Tbps

Soon to be Completed:

  • Pakistan-China Fiber Optic Back-Haul

International links with landing points in Pakistan are under construction, which are given as under:

  • AAE-1 with design capacity of 40 Tbps
  • Silk Road Gateway-1 (With landing points in Karachi and Gwadar)
