Western countries are continuously shifting from fossil fuels to renewable resources especially with help from companies like ‘Tesla’ and now the Asian countries are also following this trend. Pakistan is one among these countries which is increasing its renewable resources with announcement of recent solar projects. Another such Asian country is our neighbor India and recently it showcased its first train in which rooftops of the coaches have solar panels.

But it should be cleared that diesel will be used to power engine of train and the solar power will be used to run electrical appliances inside the coaches. It means that the renewable solar power source will be used for small electric power devices like fans, lights and entertainment systems.

A single coach has 16 electric panels which are helpful not only to keep the environment clean but also can save millions of rupees.

The firm behind this technology is ‘Jakson Engineers’ whose MD says that installing these panels is not a simple task as the engineers have to fit the panels in a way that they can withstand with the 80 kmph speed of train.

The cost of installation of these panels in a single train is 14.7 lac rupees but application of this system on six coaches will compensate the initial cost in just 5 months. Greater power savings and less pollution will outweigh this initial cost very soon.

Pakistan is also working on improvement of its railway system. Pakistan Railway recently announced its plan for installation of solar powered traffic signaling system through which drivers can know about any activity on a track at 3.5 km distance. Now the time has come to spend money of moves such as taken by India and also to improve our whole railway system which includes coaches, tracks and others.
