Punjab is To Introduce Hassle-Free Vehicle Registration System

Salman Sufi, member of CM’s Special Monitoring Unit (SMU), told while addressing during an event in Rawalpindi that soon a new vehicle registration system will start in Punjab. The current process of registration and number plate allocation of cars will be modernized through this new system. It will eradicate fake and “Applied for” number plates on vehicles which is mainly behind the introduction of this new Dealer Vehicle Registration System (DVRS) that will start online from next month.

A Completely Computerised System

It was declared by Salman Sufi that DVRS system is completely computerized due to which it can not only eradicate corruption but also reduce terrorism y eliminating the danger of fake number plates. Late registration of cars was used by the people to avoid motor vehicle taxes but it will not be possible now.

He added that in Punjab during last year, 1.6 million vehicles were registered last year. Previously, the applicants had to stand for hours in lines which was a loss of their time and money. Now dealers will provide number plates. They will deposit registration fee and number plate in NBP and this dealing with be recorded in computer. Later, the new car owners will be given already approved number plates.

The government has fixed fees of Rs. 2,000 for cars and Rs. 500 for motorcycles

Sufi told that after providing number plates to vehicle owners, the dealers will be given licenses. The dealers will be registered by Punjab Govt. under this program to sale and purchase of vehicles.

Tanver Gondal, Director Excise & Taxation, told that a fixed charge of Rs. 500 for motorcycles and Rs. 2000 for motor vehicles will be laid according to the new process. Now a computerized card will work as a registration and universal number plate for a vehicle where information about sale and purchase of the vehicle will be available.
