+

Unregistered motorcycle Qingqi rickshaws have been banned by Supreme Court of Pakistan in whole of country. On Wednesday, Supreme Court said while hearing that only those rickshaws will be allowed to operate that are approved by the Govt. authorities. Justice Gulzar Ahmed headed the two member bench of SC which issued the this latest order about banning unregistered rickshaws.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed said in his remarks about poor public transport facilities in the country that people in Karachi are still sitting in buses built in 1950s while these noisy Qingqi rickshaws are present across the country. These dangerous rickshaws turn over while taking sharp turns and can take lives of the passenger. He added that govt. has introduced new transport services like metro bus, orange line and green bus but no one is taking steps to regulate qingqi rickshaws. With this decision by SC, we are hopeful that government will start inspection of these rickshaws.
