Sindh Bomb Disposal Squad To Get 5 Robots

Sindh Police authorities have allowed bomb disposal squad to buy the robots, gadgets, tools and other machinery, which will be available for millions of rupees.

The concerned officials said that this decision will be made in result of one of the biggest purchase for the Sindh police authorities. The equipments are added with anti-IED (improved explosive device), bomb detectors, robots and picket jammers. The police officials declared the details of the equipments, which they will procure and they said that the key items are included with five EODs (explosive ordinance devices) robots. There is only one unit, which is using the robot and it is made available with the donation granted from United Kingdom. The cost of the robot is about Rs 10 million and Sindh Police is going to buy five in one go.

Features of IED-Busting Robots

The robots will have the capability of bomb defusing with the infra red and there are some other sensors and signal jammers. They have the extendable limbs and they are added with gun and have number of barrels, which are available for use. The robot has the range of 1 kilometer and it can work for 10 hours when it is fully charged.

The robots can run on the special frequency or the wireless signal, which is undetectable by the radars. As soon as the robot finds the IED, it uses the jammer to destroy the circuit of bomb and use water gun or it can discharge the firearm on it.

List of Equipment Being Acquired

The official of the Sindh Police stated that they are going to buy the things mentioned under:

  • 31 explosive detectors
  • 10 portable IED jammers
  • 20 pocket jammers
  • 7 bomb locators
  • 4 disrupting pig sticks

The police will buy the following tools and gadget for the technical assistance of the bomb squad:

  • 5 new kits
  • 48 safety goggles
  • 14 high definition binoculars

It is also added that the aggressive procurement plan is designed to consider the level of threat as it will demand capacity building of the bomb disposal unit. The procurement of these gadgets and tools will be done through the budget allocated to the Sindh police, which have an annual plan for procurement of such gadgets and machinery for the police department.

Allocation of The Budget

Sindh government has allocated the Rs.82.3 billion from its current budget to maintain law and order situation. This allocation is added with fund, which are reserved for the rangers, jails, police and other security departments. The previous budget allocation was Rs.64.458 billion for period of 2015-2016.

Sindh police made the necessary arrangements after making the collaboration with British Army and FBI from US to give the training to the bomb disposal squad.
