It is an exnpensive business to get a camera/camcorder to shoot 4K videos but with its new FDR-AX100 camcorder, Sony is now trying to get things under control. Of getting your hands on a next-gen shooter, the Ax100 is a comparatively cheaper solution, priced at $1999.

Its maker is promising quality results as it comes with a 20MP 1” Exmor R CMOS sensor and up to 12X optical zoom, its 29mm wide-angle Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens supports.

For its video-shooting capabilities; the AX100 shoots Full HD slo-mos at 120 fps along with 4K videos at 24 or 30 fps in XAVC-S or MP4.

Due to a new feature ‘My Voice Cancelling’, the audios in the videos shot will be much more directed towards the subject being shot and clearer. To make sure that the videos being shot are smoother, ‘Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization’ is used.

Standing alongside an OLED viewfinder is the LCD touchscreen display, measures 3.5” in size. Along with support for Class 10 SDXC memory cards, the AX100 comes with NFC, Wi-Fi and built-in USB for faster file transfer.

As Sony’s other top-of-the-line Alpha mirrorless cameras, it also comes with Sony’s same Bionz X image processor.

Available for $200 in March, if you aren’t truly dedicated towards shooting videos you’ll be mad to buy, either professionally or for fun, it is the cheap way forward.

You can look towards Sony’s own HDR-CX900 if you don’t want 4K video shooting, which is just in Full HD and not 4K for $500 less and does everything the AX100 does. Towards this handycam’s larger brother the AX1, professionals can also look, which is high-tech and mush larger but more expensive at $4499.
