SUPARCO wants Pakistan Google Maps In HD

Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) Pakistan is going to launch its satellite into space very soon. SUPARCO will send the remote sensing satellite for his resolution imagery. It is also decided to launch the local search engine, ‘Akas-e-Pakistan’ with the satellite.

A Google Earth Replacement

The meeting was conducted in SUPARCO which was chaired by the Deputy Chairperson Dr Arifa Lodhi and it was mentioned that the local search engine was aimed at the replacement of Google Earth with the better and improved resolution imagery.

During the meeting, she said that Pakistani institutions will make good use of most accurate geological information via satellite freely. The satellite is PAKSATONE-IRA and it is used to spot the space station France. The cost of the satellite will be millions of dollars per year.

Punjab Government Collaboration with SUPARCO

Government of Punjab and SUPARCO will collaborate with each other to use space technology in enhancing the economic growth across the province and it will also involve the mineral exploration and the preparation of forest inventory in the Punjab province.

SUPARCO management made it clear that they are working with the Punjab government after making the collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and they provide necessary training to the provincial officers of the concerned departments so that they can get the benefit from the space technology.

It is also decided that the GIS laboratories will be established along with the preparation of the forest inventories and the laboratories will be established for:

  • Crops Reporting System soil crop condition assessment,
  • Mapping of crop land characteristics, forest mapping,
  • Flood mapping,
  • Resource mapping,
  • Crime mapping,
  • Infrastructure development and health management,
  • Identification of contaminant levels in the industrial areas,
  • Identification of encroachment in beds of the rivers,
  • Exploration of mines and minerals, etc.
