Tax on Mobile Phones & SIM Activation by FBR

There has been news by Federal Board of Revenue yesterday, according to that issued the tax imposed on mobile phones has been reduced with three slabs. Whenever a new SIM will be purchased tax will have to be paid which was waived before.

According to the notification issued by Federal Board of Revenue that a tax deduction at source to be made on mobile phones importer and end consumer to bear the tax burden. The tax imposed from the cellular companies before 4th April was 250 rupee for SIM activation.

A sales tax of SRO 46O has been imposed according to the notification issued and this tax is be collected in two respective levels, one type of tax will be deducted at the time when SIM will be sold and other will be deducted in advance(at source).

According to the notification issued by FBR tax of 150 rupee will be imposed on mobile with camera 2MP or less than that and the screen display having 2.6 inches or less. The tax of 250 rupee will be imposed on all the mobile   phones with dual camera (2.1 to 10 MP) whose processor is less than 2GHZ and screen display ranging from 2.6-4.2 inches.

A tax of 500 will be imposed on all mobile phones with camera more than 10 MP, with a dual core processor and touch screen of 4.2 inches according to the SRO. Another noticeable thing is that all iOS phones, Android 2.3 or higher, Windows 8 or Back Berry devices shall be charged a tax of 500 rupees.
