Trump Signs Order to Limit Work Visas for Foreigners

The American president, Donald Trump signed the executive order, which is entitled ‘Buy America, Hire America’ and now the federal agencies are called to overhaul the visa program to bring the highly skilled workers. This executive order urges the authorities to take the prompt action to crack down on fraud and abuse within the US immigration system to protect the US workers.

According to the statement of White House, the program affects the livelihood of American workers to bring the cheap labour from various countries, which is also included with Pakistan. The US president, Trump said that they are sending the powerful signal to the world that they are going to defend their workers and protect their jobs and put America first financially.

Right now, H-1B visas are awarded to the workers in totally random lottery and it is wrong. They should give most skilled and highly paid applicants and they should never be used to replace Americans.

The order of the US president is dramatic and the experts say that it would not have any immediate effect as the US president cannot change the number of visas, which are already issued. It can be seen the move to build up the support for legislative reform down the line and it is a concerning move.

H-1B Visas and Pakistan

The visas issued for the foreigner workers enable the companies to hire the foreign labor for three years and the workers required to get the specialized knowledge and bachelor degree or higher in the field of science, information technology and engineering.

Most of the workers are employed in Silicon Valley and the firms like Tata Infosys and cognizant have highest percentage of the foreign employees in their company. Bloomberg says that the average companies pay the $65,000 to $75,000 a year to H-1B workers. Google and Microsoft average the $100,000 salary on the yearly basis.

The Indian workers got about 70% H-1B visas in 2016 and Pakistan is on the 17th with 601 H-1B visa applications.
