Under the supervision of Universal Service Fund (USF), Telecenters are to be rolled out in rural areas of Pakistan and they’ll host variety of services for community including; CNIC, biometric verification of SIM cards, computer training for youth and birth/death registration.
During a meeting in Islamabad, this was decided. Ms Anusha Rahman chaired the meeting, while other officials in the meeting, to further discuss the implementation of Telecenter Project, were; Senior Officials from USF, Mr. Akhlaq Tarar (secretary IT) and a team of senior officials from NADRA, led by Chairman Mr. Tariq Malik.
During the meeting it was decided that to facilitate the people of under-served, un-served and far flung areas, Telecenters would offer several e-services such as; e-learning, e-health, e-agriculture, e-commerce etc.
It is likely that telecenters will create entrepreneurship opportunities and local employment, and extend broadband to provide ICT literacy and distance education.
