The nursing profession is not given much attention in the country. Mostly students from poor family background join this profession. The nursing students are unfortunately ignored in the matter of financial aid and other related issues. The government of Pakistan is taking a reasonable initiative for the betterment of nursing students. The great news for nursing students is that the Govt launches 1000 Nursing Scholarships in Pakistan. The federal Govt is going to introduce the Nursing Scholarship Program 2020 for the financial aid of nursing students.
The Federal Minister for Education & Profession Training, Shafqat Mahmood, Said while addressing in the launching ceremony of the Nursing Scholarship Program that for the first time in the history the Govt is going to award 1000 nursing scholarships with allotment of Rs 310 million for the year 2020. He further said that for next four years ministry will spend 1.24 million to expand the nursing scholarship. He said further that the deserving but talented students from all areas of Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan, KPK, FATA, GB, ICT, & AJK will be provided equal opportunity to avail this golden chance. Moreover, the Pakistan Nursing Council PNC has approved approximately 5000 seats for nurses for the year 2020. By awarding 1000 nursing scholarships, 20% of students (every 1 out of five students) can avail the scholarship. Mr. Mehmood Said:
“Usually, nursing students belong to very poor families and are from very low income category group. They want to adopt this profession but as they cannot afford the fee they usually are forced to signed tough agreements with the affiliated hospitals who pay them very less and bond them for 5 to 8 years. Year 2020 is being observed as nursing year globally and this Government has brought unique and exclusive steps to promote nursing in the country.”
