How to Save in Nuclear Attack

+

The things between Pakistan and India are becoming worse as the tension over Kashmir dispute is rising continuously. India is taking the forces on the borders and Pakistan army is also ready to face any misadventure.

There are many analysts, who are predicting a small scale war, which will be fought between the two countries. Indian media is supporting their government to launch a full scale war against Pakistan. As both the countries are nuclear powers, so this war can result in deaths of millions of people on both sides and it will also set the region many decades behind.

There are many people on both sides of the borders, who believe that war is not the solution of any issue and it will leave the countries in loss of lives and economic turmoil in this region. Both countries will get nothing but huge number of death toll and economic disparity. This matter should be resolved diplomatically. If Pakistani does not respond to Indian aggression, then the situation will be aggravated in any form or kind.

If an all out war is started then the use of nuclear weapons will be a reality and small sized tactical nuclear weapons will be used. It is hoped that the nuclear war will not be started, but if it happens, then you can know some of the guidelines, which are necessary in case of any nuclear attack.

Understanding a Unclear Explosion

Before we tell you some of the guidelines and plan to survive a nuclear attack, the viewers need to understand few things:

  • Nuclear weapons can be of different sizes, ranging from few kilotons to megatons.
  • Little Boy, the codename for hiroshima nuclear attack, was of 15 Kilotons
  • Maximum yield of a successfully tested nuclear bomb (Tsar Bomba) was calculated at 50 Megatons
  • India has tested 60 Kiloton Nuclear Bomb

If 15 kilotons of the nuclear weapon is fired then anything within the range of 2 kilometers will be evaporated because of the blast effects. Within four kilometers ranges, severe damage can be done and the moderate damage of third degree burns can be done with in first 10 kilometers of ground zero.

If you are present within 14 kilometers of the place of attack of nuclear weapon, then the serious damage will be done and the chance of survival are very less and you will be treated immediately or you should be fully prepared to face the hit.

There is only one way to survive from the nuclear hit that you have ‘Airlocked Underground Concrete Bunkers’ with the steel shielding. It is necessary to share that there are two types of the damages, which a nuclear bomb can do:

  • Blast effect
  • Radiation effects

In the first 4 kilometers of the attack of 15 kilotons nuclear weapon will come under the blast effect and the effect of the radiations can span to the wider areas. The radiations of the nuclear weapon can travel to several kilometers and it also depends on the size and weight of the detonation, the height of the detonation and direction of the wind, which can prevail it in the area at the specific time. The radioactive particles present in the air after 9 days of the nuclear hit and travel with the air, and after that they fade away.

People can check the graphic and they can watch the radiation, which fall out of the nuclear shot, they travel with the air after the detonation and they cover wide area during next few days, then the radioactive waves are depleted.

Theoretical Fallout Data for a 15 Kiloton Nuclear Detonation

  • Fireball radius: 310 m
  • Radiation (500 rem) radius: 1.16 km
    • 500 rem radiation intakes by a human without medical treatment, there can be expected between 50% and 90% mortality from acute effects alone.
    • Dying takes between several hours and several weeks.
  •  Air blast radius: 2.75 km
    • Most residential buildings collapse, injuries are universal, fatalities are widespread.
  •  Thermal radiation radius (3rd degree burns): 3.48 km
    • Third degree burns extend throughout the layers of skin, and are often painless because they destroy the pain nerves.
    • They can cause severe scarring or disablement, and can require amputation.
  • Thermal radiation radius (2nd degree burns (50%)): 4.7 km
    • Second degree burns are deeper burns to several layers of the skin. They are very painful and require several weeks to heal.
    • Extreme second degree burns can produce scarring or require grafting.
  • Thermal radiation radius (1st degree burns (50%)): 6.61 km
    • First degree burns are superficial burns to the outer layers of the skin.
    • These burns are painful and can heal within 5-10 days. They are more or less the same thing as sunburn.
  • Thermal radiation radius with no harm: 8.48 km
    • The distance at which anybody beyond would definitely suffer no damage from thermal radiation (heat).

Theoretically, it is said if you are 10 kilometers away from the ground zero of the 15 kilotons nuclear hit, then it is expected that you are safe. But it is better for the people to run away from the ground zero as soon as possible.

Plan Ahead

When the war is going to start, then there is only one way to survive from the attack by making your plan in advance. When the war is started, you will not leave the home as you have to do this before the start of the war.

The people need to understand that fusion atomic bombs are fatal for about 9 days so they need to plan for this time and they will have to stay within the bunker or safe placement for many weeks. It is expected that radiation will remain there even after nine days and after that period, you can escape to this shelter and go outside of the city.

Build a Fallout Room

Your house may save you from the nuclear explosion but your house cannot save you from the nuclear radiation, if your house is located in the fallout zone.

Now you need to built new room in the basement or you can also convert the most distant room as the fallout room in your house. This room should be located at the remote area from the outside walls. Now you can make strong the walls as the thicker walls can withstand the radiation and blast shockwaves. It is better to build layer of steel, tin, copper or aluminum to stop the radiation coming inside the home.

You also need to shut the windows and openings by maintaining the source of oxygen consumption. People need to built the toilet in their hideout and you will not be able to use water and you need to use some disinfectants, cat litter or other things, when you stuck inside the room.

Stock Up on Food, Water and Medical Supplies

People need to gather plenty of supplies in their store as the war times can be tough. When the war is started, then it is not possible to get the stuff. People need to store non-perishable food items, which can last for months and they are rice, wheat, beans, sugar, canned food, dry fruit, honey, powdered milk and these things will not spoil with the time. People need to stock these things and they can have supply for several months.

People need to use water and they will need food grade plastic containers to store water. They cannot get water from outside, as the water resources become contaminated with the nuclear radiation. They need to store the water in advance before start of the war.

Medical supplies are important and you may need the medicines. People need to get first aid kit, the prescription medicines for next many months and the daily use medicine. They need to get the instruction booklet and people know the basics of the first aid, which they can give to the ailing person.

Communication Equipment

When you are in your hideout, you need to know about the surrounding conditions. But for the first few days, you will not be able to contact with the outside world for few days so you need to keep your mobile phones handy and charged. You need to use it when you want to make contact with anyone and keep it off to save the power of the battery. People need to buy a radio and get the updates, which can keep you informed to the status of war and you can know about the rescue and sheltering camps near your bunker.

Miscellaneous Items

People should keep in mind that they need some of the things all the times, in which flashlights, batteries, dust masks and any other masks, tape, plastic sheets, bags, mechanical tools like pliers or wrench. People need to buy Potassium Iodide tablets and it can help against the cancer, which can cause radiation from the nuclear hit. You can take these medicines in this condition that there is nuclear radiation in your surrounding area.

Keep an Eye on the News

During this time, people need to be updated about the war and the surrounding area and they can also know about the political situations. The news channels will be able to inform you about the nuclear strike few minutes before and it gives them sufficient time to hide and keep you protected.

If you get any information about the war in advance, it is better for the people to leave the cities and places, which are located near the government offices and army installations.

What to Do When an Attack is Imminent

If you are outside the home or you cannot be prepared in advance, but you get the information about the nuclear strike, then you need to adopt some lifesaving steps, so that you can come out of the situation.

Seek Shelter immediately

If you are not informed about the nuclear strike, you can see the bright detonation light few seconds before the firing of the atomic bomb (if you are at the ground zero and in case there in nowhere to run).

At this moment, you can find shelter or any house and you will have to hideout in the house and shut the doors and windows and you lay on the ground with your face down. In this position, you can be injured but it could save your life.

If there is no shelter, then you start digging and jump to lower ground and lay there your face down the earth and leave as little skin open in the air as possible.

Escape if you Survive

If you survive from the blast, then you run away from the blast zone because the radiation and debris can cause your death. You will go inside the room and lock yourself and get the treatment as soon as you can do or drive away to the safe place and get the treatment. You should keep in mind that the enemy can attack again and you need to go as far away as you can from the ground zero or place of attack.

If you cannot go far away, then you need to wear as many clothes as you can and avoid putting anything on the burns but cleanse them as soon as it is possible for you.

Know if You are in Nuclear Fallout

This is not the scientific method and it can be risky but the people can be determined if they are present in the fallout zone or not.

People need to check the area and they can imagine that they are present in the fallout zone or not. They hold their thumb up, if the nuclear blast is covered by the thumb, then you are in safe zone and if the blast is bigger, then you are present in the danger area and you must run away from that place as far as you can.

Final Words

In the final, people must pray that both the countries should solve their dispute amicably and diplomatically. If you find that war is imminent then you can use these tips to save you and your loved ones. You help yourself and others and do not think what happens with you.
