During this occasion, the representatives of the company compared the traditional light rail transit (Tram) and Metro Train for the project by describing advantages and disadvantages of these systems and recommended Light Rail Transit system for the city.

According to this proposal, the tram will have capacity of 350-700 passengers due to which it can transport 8000 – 20,000 passengers in an hour. The speed of this tram is between 20 and 35 kph while the project can be run on a dedicated or partially dedicated right of way.

According to an insider of the meeting, the cost of this project is not much expensive as it is Rs. 1 billion per km.

Routes

Four routes were presented during this meeting:

  • Blue Line (Katcheri Chowk to Zero Point Interchange via Islamabad Expressway)
  • Green Line (Katcheri Chowk to 9th Avenue via the I.J.P Road)
  • Orange Line (Bara Kahu to New Islamabad Airport via Kashmir Highway)
  • Red Line (Rawalpindi Saddar to Pak Secretariat)

But the Metro Bus Project is already running at the Red Line Project while PM directed the construction of another Metro Bus from Peshawar Mor to New Islamabad Airport.

Now, the decision about this proposed tram depends on the decision about blue line and green line projects.
