Pakistan is making progress in the manufacturing of Al Khalid II tanks and also other modern assault rifles. The country is also working hard for the production of the wonderful bulletproof jackets. The Minister for Defense production shared this information, when he gave the briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Defense Production.

During the meeting, the committee recommended to take speedy action for the construction of the shipyard at Gwadar. The meeting was chaired by Senator Lt Gen (R), Abdul Qayyum and they reviewed the export details for the financial year 2016-2017, for Pakistan Aeronautical Complex karma, Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) and Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF). The committee also reviewed the domestic commercial sales of HIT, POF and National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) and also Karachi Shipyard.

The Minister for Defence Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, senators like Mian Muhammad Ateeq Sheikh, Rubina Khalid, Nuzhat Sadiq, Brig (R) John Kenneth Williams, Sehar Kamran and other officials of the relevant departments attended the meeting.

The officials of the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering works limited briefed the meeting on the proposed shipyard at Gwadar. They also said that a summary for the establishment of the shipyard was moved to the prime minister and planning commission for approval. It was also told that the Chinese partner provided the investment for the project. The committee expressed its concern over the work on the proposed shipyard, which has been delayed for about 4 years and it is recommended that this work should be completed immediately.
