Pakistan Wants Linking Facebook Accounts

The Facebook management has been proposed by Pakistan to connect the Facebook accounts with mobile numbers that will help to eliminate fake accounts.

Secretary IT Rizwan Bashir said that Pakistan is using biometric verification system to verify mobile numbers and Facebook can overcome the problem of fake accounts by verifying them with mobile numbers while they are currently opened through an e-mail account. He said that while addressing the national standing committee on IT & Telecommunication on Tuesday.

On that occasion, Chairman PTA Syed Ismail Shah told that so far 12,977 URLs of blasphemous content have been blocked.

PTA has also blocked 350 blasphemous content online complaints out of total 6,000 that it reviewed. A web analysis cell has been established by PTA where identification of illegal and blasphemous is made by 25 personnel.

The chairman also told that Facebook has assured their willingness to block/remove blasphemous content while coordinating with FIA. Since February 2017, Facebook has blocked 137 blasphemous links to be viewed from Pakistan. Facebook told that they compiled 70% of 1,000 requests they received from Pakistan and they will also do so in future.
