PEMRA Issues Notice Objectionable Dance in Sahir Lodhis Show

The morning show of Sahir Lodhi is conducted on TV One with the title of ‘Aap Ka Sahir’. This morning show is hosted by Sahir Lodhi and it is aired on 09 am in the morning. Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has taken action against this morning show. It is said that an unethical dance is shown in this morning show, in which Sahir Lodhi danced with a girl, whose name has not been disclosed. This morning show was gone on air on the above mentioned channel on 14 March 2017.

PEMRA authority said that the host of the show, Sahir Lodhi is involved in such acts and PEMRA authority received various complaints against him. The authority also said that TV One has also done the violation of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002, in which it is stated that the private channels will maintain the ethical standards by telecasting the contents.

TV One has to given the reply to the show cause notice, which was served by PEMRA as to why the concerned tv channel violated the said ordinance. The channel must have to adhere to the policy and it should be dealt with the following penalties:

  • According to Section 27, shut down the program “Aap ka Sahir
  • In accordance with Section 29, pay a fine of Rs. 1 million
  • In accordance with Section 30, cancel TV One’s license

The channel will also give the briefing Whether Sahir Lodhi wants to explain this situation himself.

Recent PEMRA Activity

The show cause notice was served to this tv channel and one day before similar show cause notice was served to Geo for its program, Geo Pakistan, as this channel has also shown an inappropriate scene, in which boy and girl was shown live. Geo has to answer by 29 March 2017 and this tv channel will have to satisfy PEMRA or this tv channel will be fined for Rs. 1 million in fine or the authority concerned will cancel its license. PEMRA is receiving lot of complaints from the viewers as these channels have deteriorated the standards of the commercials, dramas and other shows. PEMRA also held meeting with the relevant stake holders including private tv channels representatives and Pakistan Broadcasting Association (PBA) so that they can discuss on the quality and standards of the TV contents and its decency.
