PTA Blocked over 60,000 Websites in Pakistan


60,000 websites have been blocked by the PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) so far in the country, from the amount 50000 websites were adult in nature when residual 10,000 websites were blasphemous and those from anti state foundations.

By the Chairman of PTA, Dr. Ismail Shah this was declared in Islamabad High Court a petition is was hearing that has competed the legal status of Inter Ministerial Committee and the procedure that comes out with blocking of the websites.

Dr. Ismail Shah described the court that after complaint are received from the common citizens, the large number of websites (adult in nature) are blocked, although other websites like YouTube were blocked after orders of the court.

The PTA chairman as well presented a list of blocked websites in a conserved document that were blocked on the direction of security agencies. By banned outfits some of the websites are being functioned and those by anti state elements.

Member of the telecom from IT ministry Mudassir Hussain requested the court to revise the recent order in which the court had imprisoned the authority from blocking the website without their approval.

During giving the allowance of blocking the websites by the court, PTA allowed to begin taking in consideration of the complaints regarding the blockade of websites.

The PTA and IT ministry officials were as well directed by the court to submit more in-depth report regarding the issue on upcoming hearing.
