PTA Issues Statistics of Taxation And Blocking Of DIRBS

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority PTA has already implemented the Device Identification Registration and Blocking Systems DIRBS for legal import and sale and purchase of the mobiles in the country. The Authority has issued the statistics of taxation and blocking of the DIRBS.
According to the statistics issued by PTA, in 2018 to 2019 the import of the mobiles through legal channels has increased from 17.2 million to 28.2 million and the 63 percent increase was recorded in legal imports of the mobiles. As far as the year 2020 is concerned, the import of the mobile phones has increased to 32.83 million.
Thousand of stolen mobiles phones have been blocked via DIRBS. The PTA claims that 24.3 million fake or replica mobiles and 657,645IMEIs have been blocked. The PTA conducted successful execution of the system and developed the 29 local assembly facilities. Under these facilities over 20 million mobiles and 1.5 million 4G smartphones has been manufactured since 2019.
The DIRBS works as a stimulator for the production of smartphones locally to give a potential to Pakistan to be a mobile exporter globally.
As far the taxes, DIRBS proved a best way for Federal Board of Revenue FBR and it has collected Rs. 90 Billion in custom duties from Jan 2019 to Nov 2020 on formal imports. This tax collection is higher than the custom duties in 2018 which was 22 billion rupees. The 9 billion rupees revenue collection is also carried out from January 15, 2019 to December 3, 2020.
