Under the second phase of “Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme”, a contract has been signed between Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Zong to provide wireless broadband services on laptops to the students across Pakistan.
Under this contract, Zong will deliver free laptops and 100,000 3G Dongles to the specific students across the whole country.
According to Zong and HEC, the objective of this contract is to provide fast and reliable internet connectivity through wireless broadband services to the students of whole country which will enable them to enhance their qualification and education.
Mr. Liu Dianfeng, CEO & Chairman Zong, said that PM Nawaz Sharif is giving special emphasis on Education and betterment of people which is appreciable as education plays an important role in the progress of a nation while Zong gives much importance to the contribution of enhancing education and social sector.
With this spirit, Zong has decided to provide its services to the govt. of Pakistan for the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme Phase 2 in order to assist thousands of talented students across Pakistan.
PERN (Pakistan Education & Research Network) is the medium through which the wireless internet access will be provided to student through Global Research Resources which is available on HEC’s Digital Library.
Only campuses of universities are the places from where students can get HEC Digital Resources but now they can access Digital Library resources anytime, anywhere in the country with the help of this program.
Along with HEC Digital Library, students can also get endless internet services with 3G internet dongles of Zong.
The students can enjoy free internet services for the first three months which can be extended later by paying the usual 3G Zong tariffs.
EC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed says that education can improve the lifestyle of 47 million students including 2.6 million higher education students and the purpose of this initiative is to provide valuable educational means to the students according to the PM vision 2025.
For youth capacity building, HEC and Zong can together form R&D Centers, Innovation Centers and E-Classrooms which are helpful to provide empowerment to the Pakistani youth. HEC will be helped by Zong for designing, implementation and execution of the program.
Total 100,000 selected university level students across the country will get free dongles and laptops while list of students and criteria will be available from the specific universities.
