The use of the biometric verification system is to ensure that the CNIC being presented at the time of the activation of the SIMs is actually yours. This simple task is done through the matching of the thumb impression with the database of NADRA on the CNIC, which you will produce at the time of the purchasing of the new SIM.

When you go to office of NADRA for getting the CNIC, then you will have to record the thumb impressions and all other finger prints. At that time, all the finger prints are stored against your CNIC and these prints will be matched to ensure that the CNIC belongs to you.

By applying this system, nobody can buy the new SIM on the CNIC that is fake and that CNIC will be belonged to that particular customer.

This will help in increasing the sale of the cellular companies and it will also help in reducing the unregistered and unverified SIMs in the country. With this system, the illegal use of SIMs in the criminal and terrorist activities will be reduced.

However, PTA did not disclose the plan for the verification or the re-verification of already issued and being used SIMs. It is worth mentioned that there are about 139 million cellular connections in Pakistan and there are also the same number of the connections, which are unregistered or registered with the fake CNICs.
