Now universities don’t have to employ the GAT (Graduate Assessment Test) by NTS (National Testing Service) for admissions in higher classes, according to the announcement by Higher Education Commission (HEC).
A student Syeda Amna Ilyas filed a petition in Lahore High Court in March 2014 to stop the private body of NTS from taking admission tests for university as it is illegal without any legislation by the parliament after which the court passed a judgment against GAT test by NTS.
Now, HEC has informed the media that HEC has made it unnecessary for all the universities to take NTS test for admissions and instead directed them to take their own admission and GAT test for admissions of higher education.
Testing via the NTS has always been a very gray area and after billions in revenue, it has finally been declared non-mandatory
The claims by students of different private universities were also denied by HEC which was about the orders of HEC to these universities to admit only those students who pass the GAT test of NTS.
According to the reports by students of Riphah International University and other private universities that after they pass the intra-university test which is mandatory for admission in MPhil classes, HEC alter instruct the universities to go through the process through NTS again.
Students showed their dissatisfaction on this decision and warned to launch protest and go to court in case the decision is not reversed as it is not only troublesome but also waste of their resources and time.
